Week 2 - Installing and Configuring Joomla

E-mail Print

Overview

By now, you should have WampServer running on your computer. This gives you the ability to locally develop or test database driven websites that rely on a MySQL database server to serve the data to the pages requesting it, and a PHP interpreter to interpret the php script/code and format it into a webpage. Those pages are then served by Apache webserver to requesting hosts.

Now that we have the tools installed we need to download a full installation of Joomla from http://joomla.org. If you download Joomla and unzip it you will see that it is just a folder with other folders and files within it, these files consist of php, css, html, javascript, xml, jpg, and png files amongst others.  A Joomla website starts with that folder and all of the folders and files contained therein.
