Review
Once you have reached this point you should have:
- Read the preface, chapter 1, and chapter 2 of "Joomla! A Users Guide . . ." by Barrie North
- Downloaded and
installed the latest version of WampServer.
- Tested your installation by opening a web browser and going the URL or web address 'localhost' and seen the successfull WampServer homepage showing that your webserver is working
- Downloaded the latest version of Joomla and unzipped it to a folder in your webserver's web directory (
(example. c:\wamp\www\) )
- Created a database for your Joomla website using phpMyAdmin
- Directed a web browser to go through the installation script for your Joomla website by going to the location of the folder within the Apache 'www' directory (example. http://localhost/whatever-you-named-the-joomla-folder)
- You should now be able to
go to your own test website by going to
"http://localhost/whateverYouNamedTheJoomlaFolder" and the administrative side
of your website by going to
"http://localhost/whateverYouNamedTheJoomlaFolder/administrator."
Note: You will only be able to go to your
website if Wampserver is running. So make sure you start the Wampserver program
first
If you are having any troubles or
found it easy thus far make a post to the danscourses.com Forum (You have to

Overview
This week we will move forward and learn to use Joomla, we will be going over the basics of Joomla and learn how to create, organize and present content.
On a side note, I was contacted through my YouTube channel asked if I could show how to password protect web folders in Wampserver. In other words, what if you are running Wampserver but do not want people to see your webpages without password access. The first thing you could do is simply put the site offline using the setting in the WAMP system tray tool. It was a good question, so I posted two videos on how to password protect the web directories in Apache webserver. You can see them here:

Dan,
I have been trying to install Joomla following instructions from a number of sites, but once I found your site and followed your weeks 1 & 2 instructions, installation was a breeze.
Now to start learning how to use.
Thanks for having clear step by step instructions. So many sites have instruction but miss steps which make some tasks confusing. They keep you searching for more info.
Cheers
